FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR LINES 2 & 3 OF KLANG VALLEY MASS RAPID TRANSIT PROJECT

MRT Line 2 starts at Kota Damansara in the North West and runs east to the CBD before heading south to Putrajaya. There is also a spur line to Selayang from Jinjang. The total length of the system measures 60.7km, of which 11.15km is underground. MRT Line 3 takes the form of a circular orbit route around the center of Kuala Lumpur. It stretches from Pusat Sains Negara in the west to Ampang in the east, Sentul Timur in the north to Pantai Dalam in the south. The total length is 44.9km, of which 16.1km is underground. HSS was appointed to study alternative alignments within the broad transportation corridors for MRT Lines 2 and 3. The objective was to determine the optimum alignment through a value engineering exercise, including a workshop with SPAD. Further, there was a requirement to locate stations along the alignment so as to maximise ridership, be within walk-in population catchments and have good connectivity to the surroundings. The main deliverable was a set of drawings identifying engineered alignment boundaries, to be used to gazette the MRT Line 2 and Line 3 schemes.
