VISUAL CONDITION SURVEY OF PENANG PORT

As a pre-cursor to upgrading the port, MMC Corporation Berhad engaged HSS to undertake condition survey of wharf structure at North Butterworth Container Terminal at Penang Port. HSS’s initial work comprised a desk study based on existing as-built drawings and other previous inspection reports received from Penang port. Subsequently, HSS undertook visual inspection and rated defects identified in the wharf structure in accordance with the REAM-GL 5/2004 guidelines. The structural elements assessed included the deck slab, quay wall (partial), fenders, bollards, crane rails, buffer stops, ladders, expansion joints, surfacing, reinforced concrete kerb and drain pipes. The work culminated in the preparation of a technical ‘due diligence’ report with Professional Engineers endorsement.
