SCOUR AT SUNGAI LANGAT & SUNGAI SEMENYIH SUBSTRUCTURE
Sg. Langat and Sg. Semenyih bridges were constructed in the mid 1970’s and extended with additional lanes in 1990. These two bridges link Kuala Lumpur and Seremban from part of the North-South Expressway. The substructure for the bridges was scoured by almost four meters due to sand mining activities at the downstream undermining gabion retaining wall foundation and exposing the bridge piles. HSS was engaged to propose emergency and permanent protection system to protect the retaining wall structure and the exposed piles. The works comprised of a Reinforced Concrete wall to support local JKR road reserve (10m), micro-piles installation, base slab casting, exposed piles filling and rip rap protection on geotextile filter to river bed and river slope. Services that were provided included hydrological and hydraulic modeling, geotechnical and foundation studies as well as structural analysis.
