LOJING TO POS BLAU ROAD

The construction of a road connecting Lojing to Pos Blau in the State of Kelantan passes through rugged geographical terrain, cutting across the Main Range. The road incorporates a series of major bridges constructed of in-situ box girders sitting atop of tall hollow piers.

An environmental impact study was commissioned to identify and assess environmental factors associated with the project. The major technical challenge associated with the bridges was the height of the piers and construction of the box girders. A feature of the design and construction was using piers of heights 40 to 50 metres to avoid massive earthworks. HSS was engaged to undertake pavement condition survey/testing, geotechnical investigations, drainage and hydraulic studies and economic analysis, followed by detailed engineering design for the road, bridges, drainage structures and associated works.
