KUALA LUMPUR THERMAL SOLID WASTE TREATMENT PLANT
The thermal solid waste treatment plant, or incinerator, with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes/day of municipal solid waste from the south-western areas of Kuala Lumpur, is located on a eight hectare site. The plant utilises the state-of-the-art gasification and ash melting technology, designed to reduce total dioxin generation and emission of heavy metals and enable glass, aluminium and steel to be recovered. Also, the heat produced by the plant is used to generate electricity at comparatively high efficiency. HSS was appointed as part of a consortium to undertake the project management consultant role and in doing so ensure that the plan t is planned, designed, constructed, commissioned and operated in conformance with both international standards and local conditions. This project was deferred by the government in 2006.
